How do I send a contract for e-signature in MONA?

Click Contracts, then New envelope. Upload the PDF, add each signer, place Signature fields, and click Send envelope. Signers sign by email link, no account, and you download the signed PDF.

Quick answer: click Contracts in the sidebar, then New envelope. Upload your PDF, add each signer’s name and email, click the document to place a Signature field for each of them, and click Send envelope. Every signer gets their own link by email, signs in any browser with no account, and you download the Signed PDF when the status reads Completed.

Contracts is MONA’s built-in e-signature, so you can send your design services agreement, letter of agreement, NDA or change order for signature without a separate DocuSign account. Each contract is an envelope: one PDF, the people who sign it, and the fields each of them fills.

Who can use this

Contracts is available to every seat on a studio, on every plan. It is built for the desktop browser, since placing fields on a PDF needs a pointer. On a phone you can reach it from the menu, and the signing page your clients use is made for phones.

How do I send a contract for signature?

  1. Click Contracts in the sidebar, then New envelope. The builder has three steps: 1. Upload, 2. Recipients, and 3. Place fields and send.
  2. Drag your PDF onto Upload a PDF to get started, or click it to browse. Any PDF up to 100 MB works. Over 15 MB, MONA tells you it will compress the images when you send; the text and layout stay the same. To try it first, click No PDF handy? Use a sample NDA.
  3. On 2. Recipients, type the Name and Email for each signer. Click + Add signer for more people, up to 10. Each signer gets a color, and their fields use the same color.
  4. Add a Message (optional) that signers see in the email and on the signing page.
  5. Pick a Frequency of reminders: No automatic reminders, Every day, Every 2 days, Every 3 days, Every 5 days or Every 7 days.
  6. Leave Allow suggestions on if signers may highlight the document and suggest changes, or turn it off so they can only read and sign. Click Next: place fields.
  7. Under Placing fields for, pick whose turn it is, pick a field type, then click the document where it goes:
    • Signature: required, at least one per signer. A signer still missing one is flagged needs signature.
    • Initials: for initialing each page or clause.
    • Date signed: fills in the date when they sign.
    • Full name: fills in their name.
    • Text: a box they type into.
  8. Drag a placed field to move it, and click the x on it to remove it.
  9. Click Send envelope. A banner confirms it is out for signature, with Copy signing link and Open in case you also want to text the link yourself.

What does my client see when they sign?

  1. They open the link in the email. The page greets them by name, shows your message, and highlights their fields with Sign here.
  2. They tick the consent box: "I agree to sign this document electronically, and I agree that my electronic signature is the legal equivalent of my handwritten signature."
  3. They click a signature box and adopt a signature, either Choose a style (their typed name in a script font) or Draw, then click Adopt and sign. Other boxes of the same kind take the same mark with one click. Date and name fields fill in on a click.
  4. The Finish button counts down the fields left. When none remain, they click Finish.
  5. When everyone has signed, the page reads Completed with the date and time.

How do I track who has signed?

The Contracts page lists every envelope with Document, Signer, Status, Last change and Actions.

  • Draft: saved but not sent. Nothing was emailed. Click Finish and send.
  • Out for signature: sent and waiting. With several signers it shows progress, such as 1 of 2 signed.
  • Completed: everyone has signed. Signed PDF downloads the executed document.

Under each signer you also see whether their email left: Email sent, Sending email…, Email not sent yet or Email failed. When an email fails, check the address and use Resend email on the envelope, or Copy link and send it yourself.

You get an email each time someone signs, with who is still left, and a final one when the contract is fully signed.

Click the document name to open the envelope. There you can see each signer with a Signed chip once they finish, Copy link and Resend email for anyone still pending, change Automatic reminders at any time, and download the Signed PDF once it is complete.

How do I handle requested changes?

When Allow suggestions is on, a signer clicks Suggest changes, drags over part of the document, types what should change, and clicks Send suggestions. You get one summary email. On the envelope:

  1. Read each thread under Suggestions, reply, and mark it Accepted, Rejected or Resolved. Click Add comment to leave your own note on the document.
  2. If you agree to a change, click Replace document, upload the revised PDF, and describe it in What changed? (sent to the signer). Click Replace and notify. The signer is emailed and their signing link stays the same.
  3. Earlier versions stay under Revision history, each with Download.

You can replace the document only until someone signs. After the first signature, the document is locked.

How do I save a contract as a template?

  1. On step 3 of a new envelope, or on a sent envelope’s row, click Save as template.
  2. Enter a Template name, a Description (optional), and Signer roles such as Client or Designer. Each role keeps the fields placed for it.
  3. Click Save template. The template keeps the PDF, the field positions, the roles, and the default message, reminders and suggestions setting. It never keeps anyone’s signature.
  4. Next time, click Use template on the Contracts page, or pick it under Or start from a template in New envelope. You only type the signers. All templates opens the Templates page in your Library.

Can MONA prepare the envelope for me?

Yes. Ask MONA in chat, for example "put the Henderson design agreement from the project files on Contracts for Sarah to sign". MONA files it as a Draft on the Contracts page with the signers you named. Nothing is emailed. Open it with Finish and send, place the fields, and send it yourself. MONA never sends or signs a contract.

Where do signed proposals show up?

When your studio’s proposals sign through Contracts (the default), each proposal signing creates an envelope that also appears on this page, with a link back to the proposal. See How do I send a design proposal for my client to sign in MONA?.

What it does not do (yet)

  • No signing order. Every signer is emailed at once and can sign in any order.
  • PDF only. Export Word or Google Docs files to PDF first.
  • Email delivery only. There is no text message delivery of signing links, but you can copy a link and text it yourself.
  • Fields carry over on a replaced document. If the layout moved, the fields keep their old positions, so check them before the signer does.
  • Deleting is permanent. Deleting a sent or completed envelope stops the signing link and removes the signed PDF, so download it first.

Frequently asked questions

Is MONA a DocuSign alternative for interior designers?

For sending your own agreements for e-signature, yes. Contracts covers upload, multiple signers, signature, initials, date, name and text fields, automatic reminders, templates, signer suggestions, document revisions and a signed PDF, inside the same workspace as your projects and proposals.

Is an e-signature in MONA legally binding?

Each signer ticks a consent box agreeing to sign electronically and that their electronic signature is the legal equivalent of a handwritten one. MONA refuses to complete a signature without that consent and records the time, IP address and browser for each signer. That is the evidence record mainstream e-signature tools keep. For a specific contract, check with your attorney.

Do my clients need a MONA account to sign?

No. Each signer gets their own link by email. It opens in any browser, including on a phone, and no account is needed.

Can I set a signing order?

Not yet. Every signer is emailed at the same time and can sign in any order. Each signature lands on the same document, and the envelope is completed when the last person signs.

How do automatic reminders work?

Pick Every day, Every 2 days, Every 3 days, Every 5 days or Every 7 days in Frequency of reminders. MONA emails anyone who has not signed yet on that cadence until they do. New envelopes start at No automatic reminders, and you can change it any time under Automatic reminders on the envelope.

Can my client suggest changes to the contract?

Yes, when Allow suggestions is on. The signer clicks Suggest changes, highlights part of the document, types what should change, and clicks Send suggestions. You get one email, reply in the thread, and mark it Accepted, Rejected or Resolved. If you agree to a change, use Replace document to upload the revised PDF; their signing link stays the same.

What file types can I send for signature?

PDF only, up to 100 MB. MONA stores contracts up to 15 MB, so a larger PDF has its images compressed when you send. The text, pages and page sizes stay the same, so fields land where you placed them. Export Word files to PDF first.

Can MONA draft the contract envelope for me?

Yes. Ask MONA in chat to put a PDF from your Library or a project on Contracts. It creates a Draft with the signers you name and nothing is emailed. You open it with Finish and send, place the fields and send it yourself. MONA never sends or signs a contract.
