Will MONA change parts of my render I didn't ask it to?
How MONA keeps edits contained: masked edits leave every pixel outside your selection untouched, and you can always compare against the previous version.
Not if you use a masked edit. MONA's Precision Edit and Region Edit only regenerate the exact area you select, then composite the result back onto your original image, so every pixel outside your selection stays identical. This is different from general AI image tools, where asking for one change can quietly redraw the whole scene.
The two kinds of edits
Masked edits (contained by design). Precision Edit lets you paint a mask over the area you want to change with a brush, write an instruction, and choose an edit strength (Subtle, Balanced, or Creative). Region Edit lets you draw a boundary around an object by clicking points around it. In both cases MONA regenerates only the selected area and composites it back onto the untouched original. Outside your selection, nothing changes.
Full re-renders (a new image each time). When you photorealize a floor plan, restyle a whole room, or change the camera angle, MONA generates a complete new image. That is the point of those tools, but it means details can shift between versions. If you like a result and want to change one thing about it, switch to a masked edit instead of asking for another full render.
How to check exactly what changed
- Compare. Press and hold the Compare button in the Studio header to see the previous version while you hold it down. Release to return to the new one.
- History. Open the asset history to see every step in the chain, from the original upload through each edit, and jump back to any earlier version. Nothing is overwritten.
- Precision Edit results show an Original and Result toggle side by side before you commit.
A practical rule
Use full renders to explore, and masked edits to refine. Once a render is close, every further change should go through Precision Edit or Region Edit so the parts your client already approved stay exactly as they were.
Frequently asked questions
Will MONA add objects I didn't ask for? Inside a masked edit, MONA only follows your instruction within the selected area. In full re-renders, the scene is generated fresh, so always review before sharing. The Compare and history tools make that a two-second check.
Does editing over and over degrade my image? Masked edits do not touch the rest of the image, so repeated targeted edits will not degrade the areas you leave alone. Chains of full re-renders can drift, which is another reason to refine with masked edits.
What if an edit goes wrong? Open the asset history and restore the previous step. Every version is kept.
